Hello…

Please tolerate this “dark and mysterious” photo of me (apparently only visible on desktop, sorry!) taken on holiday at Assateague Island while I hire someone to take a better one of me for this ‘about’ section :) I was going to just use Uncle Rico’s Headshot in lieu of my own, but feared no one would know who that was, and would take it too seriously and not hire me because they thought I was a creep.

MY STORY (for those who want something to read, idk)

I’m Seth. I’m the lead photographer and videographer for Strands of Light, a limited liability company. I got my foot in the door with photography by way of a series of randomized life events which led me 400 miles from home working at a Sketchers shoe store in Los Angeles. The very store I met my now friend, Juno. Side note - Juno and I were both 24 at the time and kind of just aimlessly wandering through life trying to “figure it out”. One day, I went to Juno’s house to hang out. I noticed a nice camera sitting on his shelf collecting dust (actually). I said “Hey Juno! Can I borrow that?” Without hesitation he said I could borrow it until he sold it. He didn’t end up selling it for an enire year, and I shot virtually every single day for that year. I shot friends, did photo work for an LA talent agency, photographed models.. etc..

Eventually, I ended up getting a “big boy” job in hotel sales at a pretty distinguished West Hollywood hotel. While it was a good and financially sound job, I wasn’t satisfied. By this time I’d purchased my very own camera - a Canon 5D Mark iii! It cost me all of my money, but hey! I was happy to do it. The hotel I worked at was a big EVENTS hotel as well as a safe haven for A-List celebs like Leo Dicaprio, Rhianna etc… It was there I met the hotel’s “honorary photographer” at the time, Joshua Shultz. He was dope. He took me under his wing for a while.. letting me tag along to assist him on various photo shoots with some well known names. He even hired me to be the photographer for a gallery exhibit he put on for his brand. It was awesome. From there, I asked (more like begged) the hotel’s events manager to tell any of her small event clients that I would be willing to photograph their event. And guess what… it worked! I shot a few events and I actually got paid for them! It was then I realized that I was capable of achieving a goal of mine which was to make a living as a photographer… but the road would not be easy. I shot a lot of crappy shoots, dealt with Hollywood clients from hell, shot a bunch of weddings for free (to build my portfolio).. the list goes on. But I always kept pushing.

The rest is history. I eventually wound up in Maryland working as a wedding videographer. What a change in scenery! For a few years, I was doing a balancing act between wedding photography with Strands of Light and wedding videography with a few other companies, but eventually, the demand for Strands of Light was too great, so I decided to commit to Strands of Light full time, and it’s been amazing ever since.

While on this crazy journey, I’ve met a few extremely talented photographers who now shoot under a subsidiary wedding company that I created. If you want to hire me, but I’m booked, these lovely people are available to shoot your wedding day, and for a discounted rate! I still oversee the creative process, and your wedding would be edited by me so that you’d get that signature Strands of Light look.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.. now hit me up!

 PHILOSOPHY

I have a knack for natural story-telling. This means that I rarely, if ever, force any moments. I observe, and I capture the day as it naturally unfolds. It's this type of documentary story-telling that helps my couples as well as their friends & family be at ease which makes for effortless and genuine emotions to be captured by yours truly.
